Currently, we are providing only video and phone therapy to those in Maryland and specific states that have changed their out of state licensing requirements due to Coronavirus. Hawn Therapy and Consulting is a therapy and training practice in the Baltimore, Maryland area devoted to providing support to LGBTQ+ individuals and families, especially transgender people and people of color. We also serve cisgender, heterosexual people who are activists, immigrants, those involved in consensual non-monogamous relationships or the kink community. We practice from an anti-oppression framework and honor all of our clients’ identities and lived experiences. Our office is located on Piscataway land, and the traditional lands of the Susquehannock. We are committed to working for indigenous rights, to being in service to the Piscataway and our local Urban Indian community, and to caring for the land and our environment.
We are the only Baltimore area practice where ALL of our therapists are LGBTQ+ identified and hold various other identities. We want our therapists and trainers to receive a living wage without requiring high caseloads to achieve that, which leads to burnout.
We prioritize hiring queer, trans, same gender loving, Two Spirit, etc people of color in as many roles as possible. Besides therapists, these roles include photography, website support, cleaning, building contractor for repairs, and more. To increase accessibility to therapeutic services, we offer video therapy to those outside of the Baltimore region. We also provide occasional free workshops and social events for community members. Please view our What We’re Up To page for upcoming events. Our practice provides consultation and training on a number of topics.
We are also a Training Site for interns and externs at the master's level. We are committed to increasing access to quality, affirming care and this means investing in training and experience for new providers. We prioritize offering internships to people of color and LGBTQ+ identified individuals, as people with these marginalized identities deserve opportunities in affirming spaces. Being an internship site also allows us to provide more low fee services.
